Where are the fish at?

anyone here from michigan (or anywhere)go fishing? any good fishing stories? better question, where are they?! i haven't been having much luck this year. i know of a few inland lakes where there are quite a few small pike(and small bass catfish and panfish), but nothing past the 2 foot keeping size here for pike, or they're in places that I really wouldn't want to eat from... from what I've heard, there's not really any salmon to speak of (but they're usually later in the year anyway.) catch and release is fun, but i want to catch my own dinner sometime.

some places I've been going to, mostly camping, but fishing too would be near jackson (south of lansing), rogers city (east of the macinac bridge), seney (in the up), and manistee on lake michigan.

I live in Georgia now but hail from MI originally. My favorite fishing story was fishing for Salmon on the Lower Millecoquins River in the UP in early October. We used fly rods with a skirted jig. We weren't fly casting, but the length of the rod allowed us to work the bait in front of the Salmon without spooking them since the waters were anywhere from 12 to 30 inches deep. I hooked into about a 12 to 15 pounder male on a fair catch that ran about 100 yards downstream before starting to break water. He broke water another three times during the 25 minutes it took me to land him. Not a big salmon by any measure but truly one of my most memorable fishing experiences.

One other thing that is fun to experience is the Sucker run in Omer MI in the spring. They are not really good to eat, but you can spend a day out there and hook into a fish every 5 minutes which is a lot of fun. Every now again you may even pick up a large 10 to 15 pound Walleye as they are in there at the same time. You can't keep the Walleye because the season isn't open at that time, but still fun to land and take a picture of.

Salmon always put up a fun fight. Ive never really fished for them in the rivers during their breeding season, only in lake huron and michigan. It sounds like a blast though.

I'll need to look into omer and see if i can get out there.

Whats always fun is catching a turtle on the line, ive done that before

Salmon season is the best. We gö every year from algoma wi to Duluth mn. And pulling one up through the ice is a rush

Yea it dosent happen every year depends how the ice forms on lake last two years were great tho.
