To UTH or not to UTH?

I am gradually getting Malfoy's tank the way it needs to be, making adjustments to things little by little. What I have done already was enough to break his 8 month fast and eat consistently.

The cool side has an ambient temp of 79 degrees. I do NOT have UTH heat on that side. I have a ceramic bulb on the hot side (90-92 degrees) Room temp is 70. Do I still need to get one?

Re: To UTH or not to UTH?

Since your che is giving you proper hot temps and cool temps then there is no need for a uth. The only way I see you needing a uth would be if the cool side was less than 75 then you could use uth for hot side and che to keep your cool temps up or another regulated che on the cool side but if it keeps your cool side temps 75+ while keeping your hot side 88-90 then there is no need for the uth or any other heat device. IMO 92 would be the very max I would go, if at all possible I would keep it closer to 88-90 so there is more room for fluctuation in temps without harm to your snake.

Re: To UTH or not to UTH?

I added an UTH to my setups as backup heat. The UTH is connected to a thermostat, so if something happens to my light or if the bulb burns out, the UTH will kick on.

I live in a northern climate and it gets super cold here. One of my snakes is in my classroom, and when we have snow days, I don't want to be stuck sitting at home under three feet of snow wondering if the heat bulb blew out or not and if the classroom pet is warm enough.

I am certainly going to watch the temp this winter - I will likely get one a little later this year, just in case I need it. I kind of figured it wasn't an urgent need. I just wanted to make sure.
