Re: looking for the biggest snake found on record
i dont know but that tv show last night showed the longest retic in captivity in a malaysian zoo. they "say" it was the longest, but im sure there is longer ones in captivity that are not spoke of.

Snakes have blood, feal fear, breathe air, eat food, drink water, reproduce, and they happen to live in a body which is difficult for the average person to understand. One fears what one doesn't understand. ignorance creates fear. The fear of snakes is not cultivated…we are not born with it…children love snakes, just as naturally as they love dogs and cats. don’t be afraid of a reptile’s tongue…the only animal that can hurt you with its tongue is the human being.

Re: looking for the biggest snake found on record
You got me interested too. So I started looking around and came up with:
Longest - was an Anaconda discovered in Columbia from the 30's that was 34' long (though there seems to be several 30+ foot snakes (a retic though appears never "proven")
Heaviest living snake - dated 2006 was a 403 Burm located at Serpant Safari in Gurnee, IL
Hope this helps,
Sean

Don't know if it has been broken but this looks like the record here???
It was 49Feet and 983lbs
I saw a follow up to this article that said a British newpaper reporter was sent to cover this story and when reviewed they said it only measured 21 feet and about 220lbs.

That wouldnt surprise me!
49feet and almost a ton! That seems way too crazy to ever happen...
Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.
Why is it called 'after dark' when it really is 'after light'?

I have read abput this particular snake before. A tribe in indonesia had claimed they had a 49 foot almost one thousand pound snake in their possesion. When the herpotologist actually bought it from the tribe and got it back to the zoo and measured it. It was only about twenty one feet in length.

Re: looking for the biggest snake found on record
Heres an article from Reuters that confirms the "41 foot snake" was really only 21'. The largest discovered snake was also a reticulated, which was 33' long.
KENDAL, Indonesia (Reuters) - It's still a big snake, just not a record-breaker.
When a recreation park in Indonesia put a huge reticulated python on show last week, keepers insisted to reporters it was 49 feet long. That made it the longest ever caught.
But amid growing skepticism of the claim, a photographer working for Reuters returned to the Curugsewu park in the small central Java town of Kendal Wednesday with a measuring tape. The snake's true length -- around 21 feet
"I have no idea why the snake has shrunk," said one keeper when asked about the discrepancy, as the snake lounged on a tree branch inside its cage.
According to the Guinness World Records, the longest discovered snake was also a reticulated python from Indonesia. It was 33 feet long when found in Sulawesi island in 1912.
In 2002, Samantha, a 25-foot snake which was dubbed the largest in captivity, died in the Bronx Zoo in New York. Samantha came from Indonesia's side of Borneo island.
Record-breaking or not, word of the huge snake in Kendal has spread, tripling the number of visitors to the state-run park, normally known just for its scenery and waterfalls.
