Rescued a Burm.
Hey All,
I went and joined the Minnesota Herp. Society tonight. It was great met some great people and also met a member on the board : MarkS
He is a great guy and seems to do alot for the MHS.
Well they had reptiles up for adoption and no one had taken some burms and iguanas. Apparently for most of these reptiles this is there last hope....the ones that don't get adopted out get euthanized. I picked out a male burm. (4-5 feet) who for his size is quite skinny. Even temperment...so far...and seems to be healthy all around. I just couldn't leave knowing that he would have been killed. I have zero information on him.
Well I got him all set-up gettin cozy and will start some serious feeding in a few days Gotta fatten him up.
I will also take some pictures. Overall I feel good about what I did and for everyone thinking about getting ANY reptile...I suggest checking out your local herp society.

I am no expert, but for the sake of the snake, I think you should try and see if he will take a meal. why wait a couple of days if he could eat now?
Anyway, where can i find out about my local herp society? if they have animals that are going to be put to sleep, I would not mind adopting one.

I have NEVER seen a snake with such a strong feeding response as this guy
Two adult rats later I will leave him alone for about 5 days and go from there.
Again pictures are on the way!!
Where do you live herplover92?

Re: Rescued a Burm.
A little bit of advice man....when feeding him, take it slow. Don't try and load him up on food. This snake is more than likely slender from lack of food, and loading him up like this could cause a few different problems, including impactions. Just slow and steady...a large rat or two a week is fine
Congrats on the new snake
