Re: Unexpected addition
I gave him another soak tonight after work, got a better look at him. I say him but really don’t know or care btw. He is really quite thin. I’ve got small mice for my Hognose so will offer those for a few weeks before I go to rats. I took the stuck shed off the end of his tail and he’s got some discoloration near his vent, not sure if old burn or what’s up with this.

Hmm, not sure what that is (in photo above)? Poor snake, I'm SO glad you've taken him in, & "in time". What a difference already, his eyes looked horrible & likely
felt as bad as they looked. What's wrong with people...? (-rhetorical question only)

This really made me think. I work for a sheriffs office as a dispatcher, and I'm going to get with our ACO supervisor and ask them some questions regarding how they handle reptile abuse cases. I don't think we've had one since I've worked here!

Please post what you find out, if you're allowed! I'd love to know what they're stance is.

Re: Unexpected addition
After a couple days of soaks I left him be, he was out in hunting mode the next night so I thawed a mouse and offered it, I had to reheat and offer again to get him to get it down but he grabbed it eagerly both times.
I only have the mice until my order comes this week but figure it’s better on his system anyways since I don’t know when he’s eaten last. I’ll feed him a few and make sure all systems are going well and then switch over. He soaked the cage playing in the water again so I threw him on the scale while cleaning, up 30 grams.

Offering adult f/t mice is appropriate for now. If he'll take them wet so much the better, it will help get him rehydrated.

Re: Unexpected addition
beautiful baby. Looks like some kind of axanthic? If so, probably wasn't the cheapest snake, (not what's important but still) if nothing else you would think they would at least want to take care of it for that reason... People can be so heartless. One of my cats we found outside in our neighborhood. She had a crease in her fur from a recently worn collar. We took her to the shelter to check for a chip and nothing. Tried really hard on social media to find her owner but no one came forward, even posted her pictures on all the "find my pet" type websites and nothing. My best guess is someone put her outside, removed her collar and then went on with their life. Their loss, she is a giant sweet cuddle bug and we love her to death.

Looking much nicer already!
Any update with the mouth open issue you had at the start? Do you think he will end up needing a vet visit?
