Mother's Day Poem
I wonder sometimes
How it was I got so far
Babe toddler child teen
Man, first young, then old and all the inbetween
I wonder sometimes
Right from wrong and how I know
Or why I held that door or pulled out that chair
Who it was helped forge that man right there
I wonder sometimes
Why she did it
Gave up so much on an unsure bet
Yet never faltered, never swayed, her love outpouring yet
I wonder sometimes
How it was this gift I got
And though I say 'I love you Mom' ten thousand times in my head
I only manage out loud a time or three dispelling, hopefully, any
mistaken Mother's dread
I wonder sometimes
Everyday, it's not uncommon
At the vagaries of why things are as they are
How did I get so lucky, how did I get so far
I wonder sometimes
How it would have been were she not. Or different
But I know, way down deep, that if there is a heaven she was by
angels brought
To love and keep me in body and thought
Sometimes I wonder
And then I know beyond any jest
My Mom it needs no confessing
Is more, really, than just a bit of a blessing
I may not be very smart, but what if I am?
Stinky says, "Women should be obscene but not heard." Stinky is one smart man.
