So much for things working "slick"

Was going to move Walter over to his new T8 last night. I had a 87 hot side and 78 cool side readings so I bumped my Herpstat up to 79. I had placed my probe on the cool side at substrate level per Bob at pro products. Checked my temps again last night and went to 79 cool side and 100 on my warm side. So I bumped it back down to 78 and this morning I still got a couple readings right under the RHP of 100F.
I bumped my herpstat down to 77 and we'll see what readings I'm getting tonight. All my temps are checked with a temp gun, not sure the model but it's yellow and cost 50 bucks and was highly recommended so I trust it's correct. If I can't get acceptable readings tonight I'm moving the probe to the warm side and try regulating it from there. I won't put a snake in an enclosure until I get things all dialed in and stable, I think that's good advice for anyone to not rush putting a snake in it's home until all is right.

I never liked having the probe on the cool side. Usually works best to have the probe under the heat source.

Thanks, that may be what I do. Talked to the guy at pro products again he suggested moving the probe closer to heat source which I did at lunch today. Put it along back wall of cage not quite in middle. My temps at lunch were better, had 78 cool side and 95 was the hottest reading I got on substrate under the RHP. Was 92 inside of his hide which isn't bad. Part of the problem probably is I'm picky as h%&& and want it perfect. I'll get it dialed in one way or another.

Yeah your t-stat needs to be regulating the heat source itself. Probe should go on the warm side. Ambients should even out as long as your room isn't like ridiculously warm or cold or something.

Yea I set it up how the guy at pro products told me too but maybe in my room it just won't work. It's in my den in the basement and room temp is about 70. Moving the probe to back of cage close to center got me 78 cool side and 87 hot side with 88 inside warm hide. I think that's pretty good so I may move him in tonight.
