Ever have a snake get stuck in a hide?

I've got this stump hide that my snake seems to really like. It has the open bottomed hole in the front and another hole in the back that is closed at the bottom. The other day he went out the back, got about half way out then tried going back in the same hole so a small loop of him was sticking out. I freaked and thought he was stuck so I pulled the stump out and actually he came out pretty easy. Just kinda scared me of him getting stuck and I've debated either cutting the bottom part of the hole out and smoothing the edges with a dremel or just sealing it up completely somehow.

I hate to totally get rid of it because it looks really cool and he seems to like perching on it as much as hiding in it. The top is open as well and he will crawl out the top and sit like this.

Sounds like that hide may need work. He will be growing.

I haven't seen a decorative hide yet that didn't need sharp edges attended too, especially on the inside and entry way.

if it were me i would probably cut the hole bigger and smooth just because its beautiful and your ball seems to like it, also ive always loved animal hides where they can move through and around. just my two cents

Yea that's what I'll do. Inside it's still big enough for him to use for awhile. I got the tools to take care of it so next time I have him out I'll do it.

I've never actually had one get stuck, but I have had some injure themselves trying to cram themselves into a too tight space.

I had one get stuck between branches before. . .she squeezed to open the branches apart and then they closed on her. Once I got her free and evaluated, I glued the stick so that it couldn't happen again. Ive also had some decorations that I ended up having to put foam in to close off the entrance bc the snake couldn't fit but it was a really cool piece. Crafting foam from Michaels works fine.

I always only use hides that have U shaped openings. And all the plastic tub hides I made my boas I just cut an upside down U as the door so they cant get stuck. Seems snakes love to double back on themselves a lot so I learned to avoid hides with holes in them.

I've had a snake get stuck in a hide before. He still has the scar from it today. So definitely make the hole bigger. Mine didn't get stuck in the hide you have but it was a rock hide with a hole at the top and an opening in the front and when he got too big he got stuck in the hole in the top and I had to break the hide off of him to get him out. Was not a fun experience.

I sawed out the bottom part then took off all the sharp edges with a file. Actually some of the inside edges were kinda sharp anyway so I'd recommend if you have this type of hide to hit it with a file before using anyway.

I have seen a snake get stuck not one of mine but I got the client. The snake had eaten and was well stuck at the stomach. It had been thrashing around and cut one side quite badly and required cleaning and stitches.

I would never trust a O opening, always a U or block it off.
