New Adopted BP

Recently I went to Petco just to pick up some crickets for my veiled and noticed a snake for adoption. I love BPs so I jumped on the opportunity. I checked him out and he's in decent health. He does have on major problem though,among smaller ones. The minor ones are things such as his growth is stunted due to him not eating rats,which came from them feeding him live and a scrap with a rat. The major worry for me is his half body burn. It's pretty bad and probably from the UTH being to hot because he had no thermostat to control it. I'd say their around 2nd degree burns. Some have healed fairly well but some spots are still flaky or have open sores. It doesn't seem to bother him to much but it makes my heart break. I know a vet would be preferable but we have no reptile specialists in my area nor do we have the money at the time. I'm just looking for any way to help him heal and get some what better. He's a really sweet snake despite the abuse he went through.

I got one with a burn one time. I didn't notice it at the time I got him, but I used the non-pain killing neosporin on it, and it cleared up after a few sheds.....I know I will hear all about the neosporin blah blah blah...but it worked for me, so I don't wanna hear it!!!

Wonder what the burn actually came from because Petco doesn't use any UTH.
Was he one of theirs or did someone drop him off with them?
He more than likely isn't "stunted", they all grow at different rates. Two of my female albinos are three years old. One is 1300g and just started pairing while the other is in the 450g range. They hatched a couple weeks apart.
There also isn't a problem with feeding live.

Is there some reason painkiller-free neosporin can't be used on BPs? It's safe for frogs, which are usually way more sensitive to meds or anything you put on their skin.

He was a kid's pet and they just didn't know what they were doing tbh. Here's some pictures of his burns and one burn that hasn't healed closed yet.

Oh wow I'm glad the owners decided to give him up. Good luck with the healing process. I'm sure a couple months in a good home will do wonders!

It will take a long time for that to heal up.
I have one that was burned bad as well and the scar still looks nasty but getting better with every shed.

OUCH...poor guy ..Some people are just idiots for letting something like that happen ...That will take a while to heal up, but it will eventually, good luck
