Pewter Poss Het Pied Clutch! (Hold back, or not?)
Just hatched 5 eggs from a pewter x 100% het pied pairing. I used a 2008 het pied male because my visual pied male was a teensy tiny 2009, and he already seemed confused about the other two pairings I had him in. I didn't have a lot invested in this clutch, it was just something to do with the pewter.
....and then they hatched. This clutch was SO MUCH FUN.
1.0 normal, 1.1 pastel, 0.1 cinny, and 0.1 pewter. Everyone is 50% poss het pied:
Of course, everyone show clear het markers except the pewter girl. But she does look stripey and faded, in a way the adult pewter dame doesn't. What do you think, is the new girl het or not? Should I hold her back for an urban camo project, or sell her?

Congrats! The pied gene does amazing things to cinnies and black pastels.
Im not saying she is a het pied, but many 100% het pied pewters have that fading.
Out of the entire clutch, I would hold her back personally. The signs are pretty good.

I would definitely hold on to that pewter Even if it turns out not het, she's a sexy beast. I would also hold back the boy pastel, pretty boy and you've got the pastel het pied girlfriend already

Unfortunately, the pastel 100% pied girl I'm holding back is also from a clutch that hatched this year. So she's got some growing to do.
But I have got several unrelated pied females.... Pastel het pied x pied is pretty good odds (if he's actually het).

Oh, the way the neck pattern joins up to to the head stripes. Very common in pieds, very unusual in normals. I think RDR held back a poss het with that joined-up neck pattern on the assumption it was het pied? But I don't know if it proved out or not. It's much rarer than the railroad stripes on the belly, so I don't know if it's reliable at all.
