Thanks for all the imput guys. I will be sticking with the 1/2" then for my new rat rack and keep my ASFs with the 1/4". So... what kind of tool can I get that is not very expensive but wont kill my hand while cutting this stuff? Nearly broke my wrist with this last rack using 1/2" and cutting with scissors and wire cutters... took forever and a day too...

This cuts through mesh like butter.

I just use wire cutters, as long as they're sharp it goes smoothly.

I use 1/4" mesh for my ASF tubs but made food hoppers out of 1/2 inch that go inside. Works like a charm...

You've obviously never had to cut a juvenile ASF in half to get them out of 1/2" screen.... Not fun.
Buy 1/3" screen, perfect for mice and ASF... Just have to buy it in 50' rolls...I use it on my s
As for cutting, get a carbon cutoff wheel for a skil saw, and just rip right through it after it's on the frames... Why waste time with snips or wire cutters???

You're right. I've never had to, because it's never been a problem. Which is why I continue to use 1/2 inch mesh. My ASFs do not fit through it. They're only small enough to fit through when their eyes are still closed. By the time they open their eyes and are moving around, just their little noses fit through, their heads are too large.

We decided to design up a food dish that hangs over the side of a HD tub. Then we can use any type of mesh and not worry about rodents getting out.

Ok. My 1/2" mesh must be a little bigger than yours...
