When to separate into 1.3 or 1.4 colonies for Breeding??

I know this question has been asked a million times! But I have ten females and 11 males in a grow out tub (Separated by gender of course!) I am waiting til they get older to determine which males I want to keep for my breeders and I will feed the rest off! So my question is: When should I separate them into their own lil colonies for breeding? I was told they were 5 months old but they are very small and don't look 5 months old! What are some ways you guys do this? Or whats your guys's rotation?

If I need new groups, I do it when they are small and let them grow up together. Never thought of age, just make sure they are weaned then set up a group. When they are ready to breed, they will breed.

Oh really! Its not like the normal rat where you want to wait til about 5 months old to start breeding them? Or do people even do that with normal rats! But I will put them together tonight! Thank you!

I'm guessing they are 5 WEEKS old. They can start breeding around 6-12 weeks depending on the ASF. And yes, you want them to grow up together otherwise the females may eat the males. So I would put them together NOW.

I just made 10 new 1.3 groups from some that were about 2-3 months old. I wouldn't wait much longer than that. It can be done, but you may lose a male or two before they start getting along.

well you could make 3 groups ....

Two 1.4 groups and one 1.2 group

Are you asking if you should pair everyone up or not?

Just pair them up now, and if you have excess feeders, freeze off the excess and sell them?
