Mice and Rats when and what should you start with and when should you shift?
Sorry if this has been asked before, but since i have hatchlings I wanted to check if my thoughts were true.
Rats better for our snakes. So why do we start them of with mice in the first place? We can always start them with RATS already right and feed them that all throughout?
I know some refuse to take rats, and prefer mice, but is this because the breeder/prev owner fed them mice to start with or were they really picky since they hatched?
My two hatchlings ate both Fuzzy mice and Pinky Rat. But now I want to stick with Pinky Rats alone.

I'd just stick with rat pups from the start.

Well, i do know that pinkies are mostly water and fat. So that might be why a lot of snakes are started out on mice.

So I guess it is safe to say that if they take rats as hatchlings, then it's rats all the way already right?

not always. balls are individuals and should be treated as so. But it is most likely that this will be the case and safe to assume.

Some will start with rats but some need more movement to stimulate a food response. Mice are far more active than rat pinks.
I'd just stick with rat pups from the start.
Must be some big hatchlings. Rat pups are huge!

Nothing is better than the other gram per gram it's all the same.
The difference when you feed an adult BP you only feed one rat whereas with mice you have to feed multiple so it is a matter of convenience and often price, however if you feed 100 grams worth the mice it will be the same as feeding a 100 grams rat.
Now as far as starting the animals not all breeders start their BP on mice, I generally start mine on rats (of course I breed my own so they are always available) however it does not always work and after a few attempt I sometimes have to offer mice.
Their scent seems to trigger a better response for those who are little harder to start.
