I'm no photographer and asked a few professionals what I should get. They suggested the Sony RX100 and I'm really pleased with it. Thanks!

THAT is a very kewl picture. Not just the camera, but the pose of the subject :gj: I could never get my snakes to do that. You mustve had a lot of ball python biscuits on hand :P

Love the snake and I must ask, how do you get your subject to be so co-operative?
The moment I set a snake down and reach for a camera the little guys seem to decide it is a great time to explore and try to wander off.

First, I set up my lights and tent and get the camera out and ready. Once everything is warmed up and bright, I will turn on the camera set it in the front of the light tent and go to the ball room and pull out the subject. Sometimes, they cooperate and just freeze when I place them in position. Other times, I will put them in a hide box and let them sit for a few minutes to get comfortable. Then use one hand to pull up the hide box and take a pic with the other hand. This little guy wanted to ball up and I gently opened him up and laid him down on the background and he just froze like that. I think the key is to not handle them too much, move them into position quickly (from their rack to the light tent) and stage them. Sometimes though, I'll admit, you get one or two who will not cooperate at all. Those I put back into their rack to try another day. Now, that I have a new camera that is doing a great job, I see a lot of time in the near future getting pictures of the babies that are ready for new homes.

I wanted a good quality camera so I was willing to spend some money. This one was around $650 for the camera. However, it will last for a long time because it used pretty much exclusively for the snakes and the quality of the photos make it worth it to me.
