Children's Python Killing Another Snake

I was not surprised that the Children's python preyed upon another snake. Children's pythons are known reptile eaters. I was surprised that it attempted to eat the other snake while it's still alive. I guess it knew that its prey couldn't claw or bite on the way down. I was not surprised that it had to regurgitate it. The other snake seemed too large to be a meal.

The Children's python could actually have died from trying to swallow a snake bigger than itself- it's happened before*. (not specifically a Children's python)
I've read reputable people that say you can cohab them, but I doesn't make sense to me. They're reptivores! Still, you don't hear a lot about Children's pythons eating snakes. Lizards, sure, but not snakes. That's probably because it's tough for them to find a fellow snake that's smaller than they are. Of course, that obviously won't stop them from trying.

Yeah, you just don't want to push your luck, much less the luck of any reptile buddies. As I understand it, Antaresia start off in the wild first eating tiny lizards, & then "grow into" eating rodents or presumably any small mammals that fit. But for many predators, hunger makes a persuasive argument for "trying new things" when the opportunity presents itself. :rolleyes: I don't think these are as "open-minded" as king snakes, but that doesn't mean I'd trust them very far either.

the same issue exists in the arachnid hobby - every so often people will find a new species and swear up and down that they are communal and it’s safe when all known arachnids species are proven cannibals eg: the amount of big name Youtubers with M. balfouri/Socotra Island Blue Baboon communals despite again them being proven cannibals - it seems like people *want* it to be true because of the novelty and disregard any contrary experiences/objective observances
