When to bump up the rat size
I haven't already posted that I did buy a BP so I'll start with with letting everyone know In June I bought a 7 month old male, Mojave GHI BP. He's a great little fella, but is growing quickly as well. I've had zero issues with him eating. He attacks his F/T PUP RATS. I bought a bag of 25 from Perfect Prey and I'm going to stay with them.
I feed him once a week.
The bag is about 3/4 done and I'm wondering if I should bump up the size when I buy more.
I can't weigh him because I dont have a scale and he only comes out of his hide after midnight. He does become very active then. And, his favorite hide is actually a big cork round. I don't want to try to make him come out. There's five hides for him altogether. When I do see him, his overall body seems symetrical to me, that is not fat in the middle and his colors are strong. I also only use ambient room light for his 4x4x2 PVC cage.
But the topic is, should I bump up the rat size for him. The rats will continue to be F/T once a week.
    Thanks ahead if time.

Since we're not even seeing him, it's awfully hard to say. You don't want to see a big bump after a meal, just a slight one. If you're not sure, what I'd do is alternate sizes for a while- one meal, the smaller size, & the next, a slight bump up in size, so as not to overwhelm his digestion too quickly. It never hurts to continue with smaller ones, but you could also just feed a day or so sooner as another way to compromise. Just remember, nature isn't perfect either- snakes can handle some variations- perfection is not essential.

Okay, thats good advice. Thank you. I do see him, only late at night. He also comes out when I feed him on Sundays. I normally feed him after dusk.Theres not much of a bump with the rats Im feeding him now.
I'll get a mixture of packs this same size and the next size up. I have some picks of him but can't post them directly.

That's okay- we don't need to see him- you're in a better position to judge his meal size with relation to his body. I think you've "got this".

I'll also add that health-wise, it's better to slightly under-feed a snake than to slightly over-feed one.

Makes sense given they live in a PVC cage primarily.
