Tegu growth..and the importance of building an enclosure early!
Haha, okay!!! So, one month ago, my fiance's father decided to pick up his dream reptile, an argentine black and white tegu. He had already made plans for his enclosure and had begun gathering supplies, but hadn't finished building his enclosure.

Of course, getting the baby, he thinks, 'oh the little bugger is so small, it will be a long while before he needs it anyway!' Riiight,
Now he did get the smaller enclosure set up properly. He has the top covered so that the heat and humidity stays in proper levels, makes sure the guy eats a proper varied diet(a lot of it home grown, actually!) but he has been slacking on his tegu build for sure.

Well, seeing what one month of growth has done to this Tegu has definitely made him wake up and realize he's got to get his rear in gear to build that enclosure asap!

So, From July 14th to today...

Same branch! Now when he basks on it he dangles his arms off the side to get comfortable. yeesh! :D

So yes, just a subtle reminder, it's a good idea to get your cages built asap(preferably before you get the animal) because these guys don't wait on your schedule to grow.

Cage size for a fully grown Tegu, most often recommended is 7x3x3, of course bigger is always better! This tegu is going to get a nice 8x4x4 design. Planning on building some shelving above the top as well to hold onto supplies. :D
