Another example of inaccurate and irresponsible reporting
    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,406724,00.html

    Quote:

A Michigan State Police trooper fatally shot a nearly 7-foot long Burmese python that slithered onto a road and was spotted lunging at a passing pickup truck.

Motorist Brian Ahlin called 911 Monday after seeing the snake in the middle of the road, just a few feet from a park. Ahlin says the snake tried to attack his truck and continued to do so even after he repeatedly ran over the reptile.

Trooper William Coon arrived and used his .40-caliber handgun to kill the snake.

Authorities say the 6-foot, 10-inch python likely was a pet that either escaped from its owner or was deliberately released because of its size. (AP)
If you haven't clicked the link, go look at the picture... I'm sure that "Mean Giant Python" was out on the highway, lunging at a pickup truck... Poor boa... :(

    This has already been posted.

Most people don't know the difference between the two species and most don't care. It is a large snake that is all snappy and wanting to bite, they arnt going to risk getting bit. Cut them some slack.

It was out of fear!! I would rather them kill the snake than the snake go off further into the wild and die from starvation. Still, running it over was a little to much.

I imagine they could, but once again it is a large angry boa. Not a force I want to face like that, and with no experiance with snakes.

I absolutely don't think hitting any animal is the way to handle the situation.

Remember when your parents always used to say, "They are more scared of you than you are?"

Yea... what happened to that mind set? Why do people have to destroy or kill something they don't understand within 2 seconds? For real, they could have handled it MUCH better.

I hate to see people swerving to hit turtles and snakes that are basking or crossing the road, that is just sick.

"Ahlin says the snake tried to attack his truck and continued to do so even after he repeatedly ran over the reptile."

That line makes me sick to my stomach!!

HE COULD HAVE JUST CALLED ANIMAL CONTROL...
