I really enjoyed feeding my snakes on Saturday. I usually just feed them and dash but I was introducing some new prey items to a few critters and wanted to see how they would react. I watched them all finish their meals which I haven’t done in a long time. They definitely didn’t disappoint. I gave my scrub python his first small rabbit which he quickly snatched off the tongs. It took him a little while to figure it out but he got it down easily. He’s been lying still under his heat panel ever since. Two of my carpets eagerly took large hamsters for the first time and even my undersized “mouser” Bredli ate a large hamster which was very exciting. I hope I can finally get him eating something larger than a jumbo mouse. I love feeding the snakes a diverse diet and it was awesome to see them experiencing, and hopefully enjoying, something new. The Argentine Boa will get the next rabbit in a few weeks.

:gj: I agree that many snakes seem to enjoy some variety. In any case, it's more natural than the "same old thing" every meal. I'd think twice before doing this with a fussy feeder, like many BPs are, in case they decide to fixate on something that's harder to come by, but for many snakes, I think it's a very good thing.

I do a similar thing .. . Default meals are xl . jumbo mice bit throw ( not literally) the occasional meal of rats or chicks …

I also change the days in between feeds from 7 to 10 to 14

Also swap branches around from one viv to another ( 9 vivs) .. it alters their climbing pattern plus gives interesting smells / aromas
