Ferry and Ezzy Have a New Home

As many of you know, I have been having health issues for a long time. Things have gotten worse of late and I made a decision to re-home Ezzy (Leachie) and Ferry (Chewie).

The thread below chronicles my decision making process and what has been going on.

They went to a great home today at Riverside Reptiles Education Center in Enfield, CT. https://ball-pythons.net/forums/show...ight=riverside

They will be well cared for, be involved in education programs, etc. and I will get to visit them.

They were my highest work and least reward reptiles. That is why I chose to re-home them. I still have 9 reptiles right now. 7 snakes and 2 lizards.

Things already seem more manageable, but I would be lying if I said I didn't miss them and feel some guilt and ambivalence. I know it's for the best for all, and we will see what I want to do down the road, but for now, this makes the most sense.

The extra room in the reptile area will be great when the basement is finally completed/repaired (soon). I might actually be able to hang out in that area and really have a nice place to watch and spend time with everyone. The tanks were all against walls opposite each other and now I can make and "L" with the 6X2' tank stack against one wall and the 4X2' stack against the back wall. That will leave the opposite wall free for a chair, supplies, etc. It was very crowded down there.

Again, I know I did the right thing and I am relieved for me and happy for them, but all change can be difficult.

Thank you again to everyone who responded to my previous post and gave their support. It meant a lot to me. I want to be the best reptile parent I can be.

You made the right decision, I'd say- you can still visit them, & they're also going to further the education that Center can do. I know it's hard to give up an animal, but we can't always know where the future will take us, no matter how well we plan. Please don't feel like you failed them, because you did no such thing. Taking care of pets means taking care of our own health too, always.

Thank you so much for the kind words. I know I did right by them and I am happy with that. I also think this will allow me to enjoy the animals I have and not feel so overwhelmed at times. Those are all good things.

It is difficult though because my health over the years has made me make a lot of sacrifices. I am not going to complain as I am still here and fighting and enjoying every day as much as I can. There are also many people not as fortunate as I am in life, love, and even health. I count my blessings every day.

I am glad I will be able to know how they are doing and get to see them. Brian (the owner of the reptile center) thinks he's going to set Ezzy up in one of the displays in the front of the zoo. That would be really cool.

I donated their tanks so he can quarantine them appropriately and have an alternative if he wants them more for education, etc. They are nice boaphiles and served them well with me. The center is going to give some "experiences" to us in exchange for the tanks. More on that later.

Apparently many people donate neglected animals and Brian was very happy with how well they were cared for and the overall collection. He was very impressed with Solana as the Scaleless animal he has was an abandoned Texas Rat that has some scarring (they found it outside here in CT). She's the only animal I really introduced him too. He did see Yafe on his branches and was impressed with how healthy he was as well, especially given the story about when I got him.

Anyway, I really do appreciate your perspective.

You made the wisest (& a very generous) decision to re-home them now- sadly, many people wait too long, when the animal's health may be suffering, & by then, they may not fare as well.
What you decided to do showed how much you care for them- you put their needs first. :gj:
