People make my head hurt...
The county I live in is currently trying to ban all exotics, the sale and ownership. In an effort to try and get support for this my herp society tried to post something the Craigslist to get some attention. Well, we got attention... from the flaggers, got to love them.
We eventually move the post to the forum and from there we basically started spinning our wheels. My herp society president was told at one point to go take his meds and then a nap.
The wording on this new legislation is so vague that it could include pretty much any animal, but people refuse to see it that way.
47.21 POSSESSION OR SALE OF EXOTIC ANIMALS PROHIBITED. (1) Purpose and intent. The Dane County
Board of Supervisors finds that exotic animals pose health and safety risks to the residents of Dane County. It is
the intent of the Board to prohibit the possession or sale of exotic animals within Dane County.
(2) Definitions. For purposes of this section the following definitions shall apply:
(a) Circus means a scheduled event staged by a traveling company with mobile facilities in which entertainment
consisting of a variety of performances by acrobats, clowns or trained animals is the primary attraction or principle
business.
(b) Person means any individual, partnership, firm, joint stock company, corporation, association, trust, estate, or
other legal entity.
(c) Possess means to own, control, restrain, transport, or keep.
(d) Public Zoo or Aquarium means a zoo or aquarium that is operated by the state or by a city, village or county
that is an accredited member of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association.
(e) Sell means to transfer or exchange for consideration.
(f) Veterinarian means a person who is licensed in this state to practice veterinary medicine under ch. 453 of the
Wisconsin Statutes and who is certified under the rules promulgated by the department of agriculture, trade and
consumer protection.
(g) Exotic Animal means any animal that is not normally domesticated in the United States, including any such animal’s hybrid with domestic species, or any animal that is wild by nature, regardless of whether it was bred in the wild or in captivity.
(3) Prohibition. No person shall possess, sell or offer to sell any live exotic animal.
(4) Exceptions. The following person or entities may possess exotic animals:
(a) A person licensed by the State under ch. 169 of the Wisconsin Statutes.
(b) A veterinarian, for the purposes of providing medical treatment to exotic animals.
(c)_A public zoo or aquarium.
(d) A circus.
(e) A person authorized to do so by the department of natural resources.
ARTICLE 4. Section 47.51(14) is created to read as follows:
(14) Any person who violates section 47.21 shall be subject to a forfeiture of not less than $100 nor more than
$500
After fighting on the Craigslist forum to defend both my president and eventually myself, I've given up. Craigslist has too many trolls and my head hurts so much from talking to them (yeah, I was stupid and fed the trolls).

These laws are getting out of hand. I wish you the best of luck in fighting back Kinra!
I'm pretty proud of the fact that I got one of the trolls to acknowledge me as something other than an extremist.
The laws are getting out of hand. Thanks for your support, it's going to be a long battle but there is a great local group here and the pet stores seem worried as well so that's good.

So sorry . Try to meet with your county government face to face. Maybe even get a group together to meet with them.

We have the red flag raised with so many right now it's crazy. We have support from the local herp society (we're actually lead the fight), local pet stores, local exotic vets and even PIJAC.
My mistake was feeding the trolls. No one on the Craigslist forum wants to help, they are only there to argue.
We just learned about this last night, but we already have an e-mail campaign going and I know that there are quite a few local people who will be at any public meeting there is about it. We stand a fighting chance if they listen to us.

Be sure to point out that hamsters, budgerigars, and guppies are not domesticated animals.

We tried that, they don't want to listen.

Erm, aren't all animals wild by nature?

Mostly, I wouldn't consider dogs wild by nature though. We have selectively bred them to the point where they rely on humans too much. That was the point we were trying to get across to the people on Craigslist, but they didn't want to listen. If this passes I'm going to start reporting peoples hamsters.
