Audible is a service of Amazon.com. I can't imagine why it would not be available in the UK. Here in the US at least, they offer once month free trial.

My mom loves to knit socks. And I love those socks !!! Once I started wearing them I couldn't wear any others. With them being real wool, yet not thick at all, they are the most comfortable things. I wear them around the house every day. Warm, cushy, but not hot. I wear them out to the barn in boots, even in the summer. And I have all the fun colors, too

I like them so much I had my mom teach me how to make them. I have a drawer full of them in funky, fun colors !
Ahhh! A fellow sock-knitter! I love the fun colors too! A couple of years ago I knitted them for a year, then set up a table at a craft fair and sold them and was able to pay for a small vacation! :-)

Its crazy what they sell for, isn't it ?

Oh that's awesome! Except that I am all out of stock right now. My coworkers snap them up for Christmas gifts, I also make fingerless gloves out of the leftover sock yarn. And I kept a couple of ones for myself that I made.

My partner's suggest that I open a shop on Etsy when I get another batch saved up. It's therapy for me, and it's nice that I can make something pretty and soft that others really seem to like. I'll let you know when I have more available. Each pair takes me 12 to 20 hours depending on the size of needles and the pattern.

Let me tell you, they are truly addictive, LOL !!!

First thing I do when coming home is to change into lounge wear and put on my socks !

Wearing boots ? I need my real socks.

They are easy to wash, too. I throw mine into the wash (although some wool sock shouldn't be machine washed, most can). While some wool is dryer safe, I simply throw them from the washing machine onto my clothes rack. They are air dried by morning and last much longer that way. They can look and feel a bit funny when wet, once dry, back to the way they were.

They fit and look great too.

I don't know how my mom can make so many. They really are quite a bit of work and my hands ache when working to much on them.
It is almost like "zen" though. You just go into a zone, your thoughts just start to float. Its keeping one busy while relaxing at the same time. Great for busy minds and busy people that can't sit still, LOL, like me.

It's absolutely Zen. I got into knitting 15 years go with a case of severe postpartum depression. My friend "made" me learn to knit and it was just what I needed. I discovered socks that first year and now I mostly make socks and the fingerless gloves. I would knit them even if I never sold a pair-- I just like doing it. I'm going to start a separate knitting thread and we can share our pics. :-) I would love to talk with you about where you get your yarn, etc.

Um..yeah. I have a few... Those are just the new ones I'm hoarding. That's at least 35 pairs or so. I also have 12 or so that are in rotation of wearing and washing...LOL

My mom is happy to have someone to give them too and I also made some...LOL.

I only make the same old design. I tried the whole knitting from toe up or 2 at the same time on round needles and it ended up with me flinging the whole thing against the wall in frustration and that was the end of that..haha

I actually prefer the regular design for wearing. So it's all good..lol

Re: The 'important' things in life :)

Yes..I guess we need our own thread...LOL.

I haven't tried selling. I didn't think people would be willing to pay just way the material costs. Good sock wool runs between 6 to 10 dollars per pair and can go up. Not to mention the work.

So I have given away some to people that realize what goes into them and treasure them. Rather then think it's nothing to wash them hot and throw them away..
