Nobody will like this but. If it was me an it's a breeder not a pet she would be adopted out or put down. Since my snakes are pets I would ship her to the Vet for the operation.

    This one for me:
    https://www.seavs.com/about-us/
Or a long drive to the University of GA Vet School.

Now, for my time playing with wild snakes in Central an South America. Wild snakes die or heal when they get infections. Ones that heal like yours live years breeding an eating before something else gets them. She won't win a beauty contest but if she eats an drinks that's more important.

    Good luck with her!

    Re: Need Some Advice!

Small update. I have an appointment with the vet up in Indianapolis (Avian & Exotic Animal Clinic) tomorrow (November 7th) and my mom will be taking me up there.

Will let ya’ll know what that vet says once we get there.

Gonna be fun since I’ll be making this trip twice in the same week — my boyfriend and I will be going up to Indy on the weekend since Sunday is the Midwest Reptile Expo.

    Re: Need Some Advice!

Hi there! So a bit late with this update, but the vet said we had to options on what to do next, since Butters has already had several antibiotic treatments...

Either A. We do a CT scan to get a better look at what is going on or B. They schedule a surgery to get a culture and biopsy sample from the tissue area.

Dr. Swisher (the new vet) got the X-rays from the one I was seeing locally, and so we decided to go with the culture/biopsy procedure.

The surgery appointment is scheduled for December 23rd, since my boyfriend would be able to take me then. Hopefully it won’t be snowing lmao.
Only reason I’d rather have my boyfriend take me: My mom took me to this last appointment and we ended up late because she decided to get things done/ready last minute. Luckily the clinic was understanding about it!

Glad you got him checked out & scheduled...it is a lousy time of year to have to depend on "good" traveling weather...be sure you prepare well if the roads are iffy.

    Re: Need Some Advice!

Another small update! Butters took a crawler rat for me today
Didn’t even hesitate one bit! She’s still looking overall the same (haven’t seen any more throat swelling though) but I’m glad she’s calmed down enough to eat. I assume all of the poking and whatnot was causing her a lot of stress!

That's a good sign, at least, & glad her throat is no longer swelling. Not 'out of the woods' though- wish you were.

Keep us updated! I am hopeful that they will be able to open up her jaw and scoop out all the nasties, be it scar tissue or cyst/pus (I am assuming it is is the latter based on the previous cases I have seen, generally scar tissue won't form from just a cyst you need a wound) and that you can get all the infection cleared away

    Re: Need Some Advice!

Finally have an update! We took her in for her operation, and they discovered it was, in fact, an abscess in her jaw.

So it’s been drained and cleaned out real good, and now her treatment is to put antibiotic-soaked gauze in the hole to help fight the infection.
They took a sample for a culture, and will be calling me once that comes in to let me know what sort of antibiotics she would need. Hopefully we’ll start seeing some improvement soon enough!

Here’s her after she got home, her throat is pretty puffy from them messing with her...

As I expected (an abscess that needed cleaned out). I'm glad you got a little food into her in November, that will help her healing, as will the right course of antibiotics now that the jaw has been cleaned out.
Hope she makes a great recovery now, after all that.
