New Addition to the Family (DUW)

After 109 days of incubation, this little one decide to venture out of the egg. This is my first time incubating a monitor egg and my first time successfully incubating anything, so I am pretty stoked. The little guy was kinda eager though. He exited the egg before the umbilicus detached and was dragging around the egg inside the incubator. The last two pictures are from this morning when I checked in. The egg is detached now but it is still dragging around a little sac. That makes me worry a little but everything should be alright and it acts like it is doing fine.

I would also like to thank Sean and Celia at EbN for taking the late night phone call when I was not quite sure how to deal with the still attached umbilicus. The help was appreciated.

Since Day 100, I have been checking in every evening. I never noticed any denting of the egg or pre-hatch signs. I checked in last night only expecting to maybe see a head poking out of an egg( or a moldy rotten egg...ha ha.) and see a baby running around the incubation box dragging an egg. It was kinda unexpected. The baby would have spent less than 24 hrs sitting in the egg, so that is kinda odd. Just eager to get life started I guess.....but it is making me worry about possible complications....but I figure if Tim Bailey can hatch a ball python with it's heart hanging out its body and everything turns out fine....then there shouldn't be anything to worry about....ha ha...

Very very cool. I have not had monitors in a long while and was just thinking of picking up a few breeder pairs of Akies. Your babies just pushed me over the edge, I'll have them soon....

Thanks. Just one baby in this clutch though. Mom gave me this egg and 4 duds....but hopefully I get some more from her to throw in the incubator soon The 100+ days on incubation time is a killer...ha ha...

...and I have 4 yellow ackies coming in next week to add to my collection too I couldn't resist. These little guys seem to have such different personalities so I wanted to mix it up a bit more with some ackies.

Ha ha.....after this weekend ...I need to get to work on build some

I will snap a few pictures of the Storr's monitor setups tonight though. The Blackhead monitors that I keep are kept a little different (little substrate, humidity/nest box) so I will get a pick or two of them. I have been trying to try different things since I am familiar with several different ways people keep the smaller monitors and want to find out for myself the benefits of each.

And this baby is a Storr's monitor just to clarify
