Hmm, actually that brings up a thought. We have a reptile rescue here in Michigan and one of their rules is that won't adopt out a huge breed snake (over 6 or 7 feet I think was their rule) to a single person living alone or a family with a small child....any comments? I know with a 4 year old in the house I'd be more than a bit hesitant about owning something that big. Can you or rather should you ever handle such a snake alone?
Flame is maybe pushing 10' & is a slender snake...he's very easy for one person to handle. A 10' retic with more girth is another story, as would be a 10' scrub or maybe even an olive python - something arboreal, strong & clingy. A lot of it also comes down to the experience of the keeper, how well you know & can read the particular snake, etc. I think the reptile rescue is wise in avoiding trouble where possible - and they're also covering their own butts (also wise).
