Anyone ever seen this?
I just watched this on animal planet's "Planet Earth". Look at the amazing coloring on the males. I've never seen anything like that!
I read an article about them that explains that sometimes males who have gone rogue will mate by intercepting a travelling female, and basically jump on her and rape her. To avoid this, the female lizards stay by the dominant, territorial males. It made me laugh because it's so personified. It's like when a chick goes to a bar and brings her muscle-y boyfriend so that all the scum bags stay away. hahaha.

Oh animals are pretty darn smart in some of the tricks they pull in order to reproduce (or avoid it). I was watching a show the other day on squid. This huge male had a female squid basically trapped in a cave she'd retreated into. He was so busy flashing his colors and watching for other big male squid that he missed, or ignored, what appeared to be another small female slipping by him to cuddle in with "his" female in her cave.
Well it turns out the other female was in fact a very tricky, smaller male who flashed "female" colors and basically acted like a lil harmless female squid...while it snuck in and did the deed with this male's prize female. LOL Who knew squid were so tricky!

Thats awesome, they say squid are much smarter than dogs and cats, they rank not far below dolphins in intelligence. That little squid was a true playa. These lizards have a really neat coloring to them.
