    Igloo cooler questions

I'm currently turning a Igloo Cooler into a incubator and was wondering if anyone that has done this has had problems with them being heat resistant on the inside? I heard a horror story of a friend this year using a fridge and having the plastic inside catch on fire(he lost 6 clutches). I'm going to be using heat tape. Is this something I have to worry about?

I don't have an incubator but this should not be something you should worry about. It sounds as if that person had some sort of electrical failure that caused the fire. There's no way that controlled heat tape (using thermostat or rehostat) could start anything on fire by the heat it gives off. It would be kept in the low 90's on the inside of the cooler and i've never seen anything spontaneously catch on fire on a really hot day. So just make sure your wiring is good and there should be no problem

Yo dude, the only way I could see fire happening is faulty wiring, or faulty thermostat. The temps required for incubation are not NEARLY enough to start flame.

Jake makes some awesome ones. He might have better answers for you. He is a stand up guy for sure.

    Re: Igloo cooler questions

Regardless of the incubator you are using, if you do not do wire everything properly or if your T-Stat fails you can and will have problem.

The bottom line is to make sure everything is wired properly and that you are using a reliable thermostat.

If you are not confident that you can do that yourself than your option is to buy an incubator.

I have a large igloo cooler, I have been using each for 2 seasons in a row and never had any issue (and it's usually working 24/7 from April to September)

im using a coleman 28qt cooler.

Hatched three (Okay, Two so far.... one is ALMOST done... LOL) perfect clutches this year with it Im quite happy with it!!!

Remember to use water bottles. They act as a heat sink and keep temps STABLE.

    Re: Igloo cooler questions

Thanks guys. I plan on soldering my connections at the heat tape and taping the hell out of them so no moisture gets in. I'm sure it will be fine, when I talked to this guy he kinda made it sound like the heat tape melted the plastic. I'm sure he had some kind of t-stat failure though. Thanks again!
