    Incubator Question

for those who use full size fridges/freezers i need your opinions. I got my hands on the freezer pictured below. and im wondering if what im wanting to do will do great.

I am using 11" flexwatt and want to put it down one side the bottom and up the other side. and on the very bottom use a open tub filled with water to evaporate inside the freezer to keep over all humidity up. there will be a total of 11ft of 11" flexwatt to one plug. Does this sound like itll work.

    Re: Incubator Question

It should work great. If you are using sealed (doesn't have to be air tight, but no holes) egg boxes, you don't need to keep the overall humidity up in the incubator. It won't hurt anything, but unless your egg boxes have holes in them, it won't be a benefit either. For an incubator that size, I would recommend at least 8-10 feet of 11" Flexwatt, so 11' will work fine, but with an incubator that big, you can also use a small space heater or other heat source on a good thermostat. Just be sure to run 2 80mm 12v fans in there so you don't get any hot or cold spots.

    Re: Incubator Question

I use hatchrite in 6qt tubs with no holes. I just put the eggs in on the egg crate and put the top on and stuff in the bator. Normally my house is about 45-55% humidity in winter. Id like to keep it above 70% in the bator just to be safe.

Now all i got left is to sell the other one to make room for this one. OR trade old one for the heat tape i need.

    Re: Incubator Question

Yes there will be 11ft of the flexwatt inside. and the room the freeze is in is heated 81 all year. during summer the space heater is off as room stays 84 since its warmer out.

Ill just have to order the flewatt and do test runs as to how long itll take to warm it up. and i have like 50 spare 120mm fans form old customer computers ill toss in 2 120s at the top.

    Re: Incubator Question

You'll be fine, but you can get a little 10" space heater for $15, and 11' of Flexwatt will cost you like $40. Just make sure you get the right DC transformers to power your fans.

    Re: Incubator Question

Thanks I finally got it in the house after cleaning it up and stripping the copper and compressor out. Only made is 30lbs lighter.

I just have the fans and flexwatt left to finish it. Holds 24 6qt tubs,816 qt tubs or 8 28 qt tubs. Gotta love craigslist. Freezer is 6 months old with bad compressor so i got it free.
