lightning pics are freakin' awesome! wonderful job! how did you shoot this? tripod and shutter release?
i missed my GOLDEN opportunity to shoot lightning, we were staying in a hotel on the 11th story in Vancouver, BC and there was a lightning storm that lasted approximately 6 hours, and i didn't have my tripod didn't get anything good without it

Thanks for the comments all, sorry it took me so long to get back to your questions. The set up was simple, albeit a bit dangerous because of how close the lightning was (it lit up the park I was standing in)
I simply set the camera up on a tripod with a remote switch. I would hold the shutter open long enough for a flash then right after I closed the shutter. The biggest problem is getting the shot framed and you need a really active thunderstorm.

I don't understand why they rate electricity in volts when trying to impress people.
It's AMPS that kill THAT is where lightning REALLY shines!

The same reason that they tell people there are 100,000 plus burmese pythons in the Everglades: It's a big and scary number that gets more attention. That and I bet most people couldn't tell you what an amp was or the relationship between volts and amps.
