The misspelled word in your thread title made me think this was going to be about EATING Koi fish, haha.

If memory serves, you're probably best to try breeding them in a group situation. After they've wintered, adults will move into the shallows, where they'll lay eggs. Your best bet would be to house koi of the same type in each pool - all kohaku, or all taisho-sanke rather than a mixed group.

    Good luck!

When my mom had multiple angel fish, they would always lay eggs but the other fish ate them :[. Haven't bred Koi, but I've had goldfish. I remember my first goldfish, Goldy. He lasted 6 years and got huge. He will always be in my heart. R.I.P. Goldy D:

yes you need to raise them for about 2-3 years and keep a group...you will see the male's chasing the others to the shallows and that is the bull.. the alfamale..it is almost impossible to do im a community pond but i have seen it happen... most of the breeders i know breed in 250g vats and no filter just airation.they put 1 male 2 females.when the girls lay ther eggs the male will fertilize the eggs and then all go back to the community pond to rest...then you see them hatch and them you raise them up and do it all over...not much fun to me but some are in to it...you should just buy them from your LFS...

I hope that you have a pond for them! They get a couple of feet long as adults.

That said, carp fish seem hard to breed. I only bred goldfish once; it was accidental. I had eggs in my 55g tank that had housed two fantails and a lionhead. Out of the maybe, 15 eggs that I was able to salvage, only three made it to fishy maturity. The try are TINY and any eggs that you do find, definately need to be seperated asap from the parents, or they're gone as lunch. I would look more into a specialty-goldfish-breeding site, as I can't even scratch the surface here.
