    First time going through this...

My beloved dog that I've grown up with is now truly in a better place. She's experienced hell for the last 2 and a half months. She's had more surgeries and invasive procedures than any dog should have to go through. Today my family and I decided that it's time we send her to doggy heaven.

Her name was Abby. She was an 11year old rat terrier and she died far earlier than she was supposed to. She was the best and smartest dog I have ever come across.

Here's a picture of her during the last hour before taking her to the vet.

It is a terrible but necessary part of owning pets. I'm sorry for your loss.

There is nothing in the world quite like the love and friendship we share with our dogs. I am sorry to hear about the loss of sweet Abby. May her gentle spirit soar within and around you always.

Thanks so much for the kind words. I've been preparing for this day for a while now, but I never could actually imagine how I'd feel once she's permanently gone.

I really hope it gets easier each day as many have said... After going through this for the first time, in my honest opinion, I think losing your dog can be harder than losing a human relative.

I am truly sorry for your loss. I was younger when I lost my dogs but they where older. I now have three and they are getting up there in age and I don't know what I would do. Hang in there and remember all of the good times you shared together.
