I currently have a my baby ball in a 20 gallon. Is that too big? I dont think she feels overwhelmed because she moves around in it often. BTW thats a really nice setup you have there. All I have right now is a bowl with water, a log cave, and paper towel bedding. Hopefully this weekend ill be getting some aspen and a half log.

Incoming reasons why you shouldn't have a half log. I bet there will be a few posts about it. I've read a few and they all say the same thing. You're ball python likes a hide that's snug around her, and a half log can't do that.

Re: natural cage for my normal...

You do what works for you.

Generally the half logs are not ideal, because they are so open. A upturned pot or bowl seems to enclose the snake better and thus make them feel more secure.

With your cage, it doesn't look open anyway, but set right on a flat surface, the snakes can still feel very exposed. For beginners with young snakes, usually it's better to use a enclosed hide, rather than a more open one.

Whatever works for you. I just like reccomending the safe route for beginners.

I use half logs on most of mine. But I back one side of the log all the way to the back of the tank, so it is more private for them.
