Your not the person who had Isla are you?
Yep, that would be me. I give Ilsa a lot of credit, she sure knew who to send.... I like to think she had a paw in the deal.

Ohhh thats so cool!
I remember you from the dog message boards many years ago (or was it petfinder?)!! You had Isla, a cat and had recently gotten a pup back then (whose now grown into a beautiful dog!).

I have got to remember to have my oldest son, Luke, go through your dobie threads. He's crazy about dobermans, plans to own one some day and I was just telling him the other day how impressive yours are. Congrats on the show!

Sounds like your son has good taste!
Just remind him that just like snakes, your best bet is to purchase from a responsible, ethical breeder you can trust. A good place to start is the Doberman Pinscher Club of America's breeder referral:
http://www.dpca.org/BreedRef/index_html.htm
Be sure any breeder your son goes with does extensive health testing - OFA hips, elbows, vwd, CERF, thyroid panel, bile acid, and holtering.
Even if he just wants a pet, he deserves to get a dog that he knows comes from health tested and titled parents, from a breeder in good standing with the DPCA.
Then, there's always rescue - another GREAT option, especially if he's looking for an older dog.
BYBs and commercial kennels are definitely not the way to go - do not get a dobe out of the paper or from puppy sites like puppyfind and nextdaypets. Stay away from the commercial kennels (Kimbertal, House of Hoytt, Altobello, etc.) Also stay away from "Euro gimmick" breeders - the ones that advertise oversized, chunky dobermans with HUGE heads, "superiour" eruo lines, etc. Dobermans are a medium sized breed - moderation is key.
Yes, you can get an intense, protective, powerful and drivey dog from a show breeder. Ronin is a powerhouse, and has proven himself a few times against people with bad intentions. Even my little Kaylee, not even 16 months old, displayed correct Doberman temperament this weekend when a strange creepy man approached us on a trail.
A great informational link is the DPCA Public Education Site:http://www.dpca.org/PublicEd/PEC/
