    Incubator Question???

ok i made a incubator with a styrofoam box and a heat mat, then i put a container upside down so the flat side is facing up. then i placed my container with the potting soil wit the eggs in it. i shut the cover and this morning i opened it to see what the temp and humidity were, the humidity was about 82%, which is good, but the temp was about 94!!! did they die???

the heat pad i have now is 17watts and 24 volts, it is the kind used for puppies and kittens.

i am going to get a smaller heat pad, what size would you recommend for a styrofoam box that is 16" x 12" x 10"???? please hurry

I'd recommend a thermostat so you can regulate the heat pad you have now.

    Re: Incubator Question???

    Hi,

I second the thermostat idea - it really is the most important part of most peoples incubators.

I also missed what species the eggs were from - that might help the people in the know answer the temp/death question better.

    Re: Incubator Question???

I don't know how sensitive turtle eggs are, but if they got up to 94 for a while, they probably got cooked. I read that 84 is a good medium temperature, so 94 seems high. With BPs, 88 is the mid ground incubation temperature, and 92+ is supposedly high enough to kill them. I guess you'll know if you got to them in time in a few days. Good luck.
What are these mojavas I keep hearing so much about?
