I know why he did it too, because I held it by the tail and ran it under hot water because he wasn't striking at it. It did the trick but apparently I should have held it by the head and ran it under water that way.

However now he is acting weird, sticking his face in the substrate...I think I may have spooked him, I hope he doesn't regurge.

Could be just trying to burrow down to get a warmer spot on his belly. I think you probably coulda just put the mouse in the sink and warmed him up that way...or try using a blow dryer to warm him up...and give his fur the volume he wants. [haha]

After thawing, Another trick you can do is to heat a cup of water (hot to the touch, but not to hot) bring it to the enclosure, and right before you offer the food dunk the head in the hot water for a couple of seconds, pat it on a paper towel and offer.

    Re: ate a mouse backwards

    Hi,

I use a hairdryer to give the head end an extra blast of heat at the head end just before offering.

I mention this because some of the fussy beggers don't like their mice wet.

Plus it generates lots of warm air circulating with the delicate hint of rodent.
