What makes the carefresh worth the extra $6? Ive never used the stuff but might when I pick up breeding again.

Carefresh is crap for rodents. It's very dusty, molds easily, and doesn't seem to be worth the extra money. I've done the math before, and for as many tubs as I have, the equine fresh saves me $4 a week than if I we're to buy just the bags of aspen from TSC. Pine is cheaper, but if not properly kiln dried is harmful to rodent lungs and systems.

if you are buying pine from TSC...it is kiln dried and is fine for your rodents. Bigger bag and cheaper than aspen.

I use pine for my breeders and equine fresh for my grow outs. Both are changed weekly. Key to equine fresh is that is must be used to only cover the very bottom of the tub. It should look like 1/3 of the tub is empty and the other 2/3rds is covered with only one layer worth. It will not look like enough, but it will be.

If you are close to a Mills Fleet farm store you can locate some very cheap aspen from the American Excelsior company (about $4for 40lbs)

contact them and see if anyone is in your area that sells their stuff
