is it illegal to own venomous snakes in Canada?

I was always under the impression that it was illegal(not to mention risky) to keep venomous snakes as pets in Canada.

I have seen a couple of ads recently on kijiji where guys mention that they have hots.

I don't know why anyone would go through the trouble though. I like my snakes but I wouldn't keep them if there was a risk of being struck by a venomous one.

I found an article from the toronto sun from 2006 .

    http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/WeirdNew...f-1985324.html

I guess its not illegal to own a venomous snake in Canada, unless its an endangered species.

That article may speak the truth, there may be no federal or provincial laws restriction hots, however, every city likely has a BY-LAW that does. I know my city of London, Ontario does.

Well theres always a risk of getting bitten but as long as you are careful and take the proper precautions then you should never really encounter that. They make so many tools nowadays to handle venomous snakes with. Hooks and tongs and shiftboxes and tubes. If your very careful like all snake keepers should be not just hot owners then you should never encounter a problem. As long as you are prepared for what you are getting into.
