I have a problem with my pied!!

Hi I bought a pied this weekend from a guy that has a very good reputation so I dont think he was trying to screw us or anything but imhaving problems with him. He was in shed when we got him but he looks like he is backed up like he has to poop but cant. And he just shed tonight and there is blood coming from his area down there. And im not sure whats going on with him. Any one have any ideas about whats wrong with him?

Re: I have a problem with my pied!!

    Here is my experiences...

Two or three times per year, on average, my males will shed their spurs. They will typically bleed from that area for a short time after shedding. While I have never seen them actively bleeding, it is on the newsprint bedding that I use.

Also, most of my snakes will typically defecate after shedding. Most times that same evening. If you believe that he is constipated, first I would suggest raising the humidity in his enclosure for a few days. Then wait and see if anything happens. If still nothing, you can soak him in some warm water for 20 to 30 minutes to help out the process.

    Hope this helps.

    John

Hi john thanks for the response. Yea he was not bleeding until he shed and I noticed it when I picked him up there was drops of blood on my fingers and so I checked him out and saw that it was coming from there. I already soaked him tonight so hopefully he will go to the bathroom tonight. This is my first pied and I would hate for something to be wrong with him.

If your super worried about constipation, then you can try to give him a short warm soak, (try to wait until after the shed if you can) and that usually will help things along.

Remember too that one of the benefits of buying from a reputable breeder is that they are there for you after the sale. Don't hesitate to call this breeder for advice as well.

Yea I talked to him earlier this morning and he gave me some advice and told me to keep him informed. Ive just never had a snake bleed down there before.
