pythons and boas
what precautions do you guys take when keeping different species?
I have a couple of ball pythons and was thinking of getting a red tail Boa.
I've been reading about quarantine procedures and how boa's may contain diseases that aren't harmful to them, but fatal to ball pythons.
I'll only have one room available to keep the snakes, what would you guys recommend?
I could possibly keep the new one at my brothers house for the quarantine time, but I wanted some feedback on housing different species together(same room, not in same tank) longterm.

I assume that you are talking about IBD, since that IS the latest rage.
Buy from a reputable source.
Reasonable QT time.
And you will be a happy herper.

Re: pythons and boas
My two BPs and my one BCI are in the same room. They are on different sides of the room, but not for health reasons, simply because that's the way the room setup allows.
If you practice strict hand hygiene in all dealings with your snakes, you should be okay. By this I mean wash hands with soap and water before and after ANY handling and do not share caging accessories without first giving the pieces a true disinfecting session. Taking the necessary precautions against cross contamination will go a long way in keeping your snakes healthy and thriving.
Also, be sure to remember that reptiles can harbour things that can be transmitted to humans, so it's important to practice the same handwashing techniques even if only handling one of the snakes....before and after ALWAYS.

Re: pythons and boas
I keep 3 of my ball pythons in the same room as my 2 red tails, don't have any problems... I find that keeping multiple snakes in the same room encourages them to eat more, maybe because of all the other snake scents, not sure. Just be sure to use a 10% bleach solution whenever getting an enclosure ready, especially if switching snakes between different tanks. I spray Provent a Mite in the prepared enclosure just as an extra precaution. Just quarantine for a month, in a separate room if possible. Inclusion Body Disease is always fatal, pythons succumb more quickly, boas can last a little while longer.

provent-a-mite is one of the best products it doesnt just work when first sprayed but it works for a month with is good because mite eggs take around that long to hatch, so it would be there to stop reinfestation. also i would never accept someone selling a cbb animal with mites or ticks
