I'm glad somebody did. I tend to let my nails grow, it helps with shedding snakes that have issues.

    Re: Prolapsed Hemipene!

    By the way,
I meant to post a bit of an update while I was veiwing this thread. This past Saturday, I di start to pop him, and got the hemipene to partially evert. I didn't want to apply to much pressure and get the full pene to evert, for fear of it staying exposed again. However, after I let the pressure off, his pene did retract back into the vent. SO, I look at that as positive progress. What little of the pene I could see, showed small traces of blood, and appeared to still be a bit raw. He did expel waste this past week into the tank in the form of uriates and fecal matter, so the pressure applied to the cloacal area didn't seen to have a negative impact.

I have one very important female that he was breeding this seaqson, and I think I might try to introduce him to just her after he has shed one time.

I will post any further updates here as they occur.

Thanks Brother. I hope noone ever has to use the info, but if they have something similar happen, at least it has been documented. I hope that if it ever arises for someone else, something in here proved to be helpful.

    Re: Prolapsed Hemipene!

Hey thanks so much for this post, it really helped me because this happened to one of my snakes a couple days ago. I believe it happened while he was having a bowel movement and it just did not retract. And it scared me at first because I had heard of it but I had never seen it in any of my snakes. I tried to gently ease it back as much as possible and tonight it looks exactly like your last picture, with a little bit of it still being visible from the vent. I've given him several cold baths and have been using the sugar paste. I'm really anticipating his next bowel movement to see what happens. If it prolapses again, we're going to the vet

Tim you're openess in sharing these situations is so valuable. It looks like it's also been timely for another member here facing a similar situation. I think you deserve an honorary vet license LOL.

    Re: Prolapsed Hemipene!

    Deep South,
I am very happy to know that this has helped you. That is the point of the whole info sharing.

    Jo,
Thanks for the honorary license, I will treasure it.

Lastly, I thought I would post an update on my guy. Last week, I decided to fully evert his hemipenes, to see how they looked, and see if he would pull them fully back in. Well, they cam out fine, but the prolapsed pene looks alot whiter than the other one. I am not sure he got the blood flow back in that one. When I released the pressure, they both retracted with no issues. So, after that test, I decided that I would take the chance and put him in with on of the more important females from his line up this year (a big VPI Axanthic girl). Well, I am pleased to say that this morning he was breeding, although, as expected, he was using his "good" pene. So far, this whole thing has been a success. I will let everyone know how he is doing after he his done copulating. I believe that will be the last test.
