My First Ever Ball Python, Indica!

HI! i just bought my first ever ball python, a pastel female I named indica! I bought her at a reptile show in tampa florida at the state fairgrounds. I got her from this guy Michael Cole who had a Panda Pie morph python, he said it was the only one in the world i thought that was cool.

anyway she was a very modest price, only 150.00$. one of the best looking pastels in the show IMO and the best price!

    there she is!

I handled her a little since I got her a few hours ago. only held her for a minute or so and she tucked her head under herself (that means she's scared right?) so i put her back in her tub. i read somewhere where i should wait a couple days after purchasing her before i handle her so that she is used to her new home. should this be so?

also im having trouble getting the humidity in the tub up to 50%. I misted pretty good and its still at 46%. any suggestions?

Are you sure your humidity is being measured right?

From looking at that enclosure, that looks like at least 80% humidity... if not higher, it is too wet.

Did you move your unit inside the enclosure?

One way to up humidity is to use a slightly larger dish (width NOT height). Decrease airholes (tape them from the OUTSIDE).

    PS: Nice snake...

PPS: Keep in mind, everytime you pop the hid your humidity is going to drop. So any changes made are going to take at least a few hours to register, as the water needs to evaporate and reach equilibrium.

Well that guy lied to you about being the only one with a Panda Pied... there are at least 3 breeders I know that have produced one. I don't know if I would have bought a snake from a breeder who lies.

It looks like your humidity is really high with all that condensation actually or is that because you just misted it?

Very nice pastel though! Congrats on your first BP!

The enclosure also looks a little large for a girl of that size. You're going to want to get her something a little smaller... or a coupla hides so she can tuck herself in and feel nice and safe.

thanks guys! glad u like her

yea i should have said i just misted minutes before i took that picture. thats why its so wet looking. i have 2 probes with accurite therm/hugrometers. one probe on the cool side one on the hot. the cool side says 46% humid and the hot 48%. temps are 80 on the cool side 87 degrees on the warm side.

if the humidity doesnt rise atall im gonna invest in a lil bigger water dish as bruce said.

also i plan on getter her another hide. only have one right now.

The probes don't measure humidity, the units do.
