Nic Boas

I was just curious if the care for Nic Boas is like any other BCI. I'm getting a Nic Boa within the next few days and I'm just wanting as much information as I can get before I go get my girl.

Nics are the same as far as care goes as any other bci. I have several nics. I can give you a little advice if you are switching from dealing with balls to Nics. A Nic pulled back ready to strike means they will strike at almost anything. If they don't want to be handled they will let you know very agressively. I do love my 3 nics my two females are very nice but my male. Well lets just say damien is an apropriate name for him. He is just one of those snakes that will bite the same hand that you are holding him in 4 feet off the ground just so you will drop him. My male is also wild caught. I just say with Nics you just need to learn the snake. I have my male out on loan while I am raising up my females. The breeder says he isn't very nice and has been tagged by him repeatedly. I would suggest a lenght quarintine you be very careful about sticking you hand in the cage. A set of heavy leather gloves may be a wise investment. That is if you prefer not to bleed.

Do they calm down over time? I'm still going to get one its a female.

Well i found that he is well over 2 years in captivity and he hasn't gotten any nicer yet. I don't think he will ever calm down but if you handle even grump snakes often they tend to calm but getting bit the whole time isn't very fun. I did try and handle him at first but keep getting bit constantly and gave up after about a month. I didn't want to get a blood transfusion from getting bit.

I only got bit about 10 times within the first five minutes of being home.. I didnt feel a thing.. Til his nose hit me wrong.
Damien hes just misunderstood. But he did calm down a bit over time. He stopped hissing and striking when I walked by. Nics I think are great. Expecially captive bred. I havent had as much problem with the cb babies. but they do have personality I like that.

ive heard lots of times of nics being snappy, mine on the otherhand is a big *****cat, loves to be handled and come out and chill on the couch, i think it all varies from one animal to the next, just like people

I have a few nics too. Only one is snappy, and even he is calming down. I have noticed that if I touch him with the snake stick first so that he knows I am there and he is not in danger he calms down and doesn't stike. All of mine are captive bred and born too, and I think that makes a difference. Best wishes!

i got a pair of hypo nic's and they are very calm.. the only time one of them has taged me, was then it was shedding...
