    Jax Zoo - New Komodo

My wonderful and much better half works at the Jacksonville Zoo.

The Jax Zoo is building new exhibits, one of which is going to house some komodo dragons. They have one already that is not on display until the exhibit is done. (I have been behind the scenes to see the little big guy, what a slurpy tongued cutie.)

He snapped some photos of a second komodo dragon acquisition. They've only had him for about a week and he's in QT. This thing is HUGE. Just thought I'd share.

    Cheers!

Re: Jax Zoo - New Komodo

Those guys are awesome! We have a great group of them here at the Denver Zoo, but my first exposure to them was when "Jack" the Komodo was visiting the ElPaso Zoo while I was working there. He was about 8' long and one big fella...but really quite gentle as Komodos go. And he seemed to like me, as he would come over to the fence when I was around his enclosure.

That's a nice picture you've got there, and a really nice looking fella.

I got to see one in person at the alligator adventure in SC about 8 years or so ago. I think they only had it on loan. But it was killer we got to watch it feed which was awesome!

Wow. Lots of people from Jax here. We should all go on a field trip. My son's favorite exhibit is the vampire bats!

The komodo exhibit is scheduled to open March 6.

The second komodo in QT won't be introduced until at least a month after the exhibit opens.
