Black Melamine Sheets? Chain stores that sell it?

I've been all over town to lowes/home despot, etc. Does anyone know of a chain store in Cali that sells the Black Melamine Panels or something similar??

I couldn't find any either down here in FL. Your best bet is online (google). Or you may be able to get a number from animalplastics or some other rack maker, on where to find melamine.

    Hope this helps.

Wouldn't the chain stores be able to special order it for you?

My local Lowes doesn't carry it in sheets, but you can get it in the shelving section already to size in both woodgrain and black.

Re: Black Melamine Sheets? Chain stores that sell it?

Is Menards a chain? Or maybe just a small chain here in Iowa??? Anyway, they have black melamine, it's wood stained black, but either way it's black. They have solid white, all tones of wood, I think it's just laminate wood, and black.

Edit... it's mostly in a three state radius of Iowa. You could order online though, I'm sure you could order from about anywhere online. Or maybe try asking Lowes to special order it for you? I did that with Lowes here in Iowa because they didn't have the dryer I wanted. They had other stores that carried it.

Home Depot in my area (Virginia Beach) is willing to order it. Talk to them where you live. If you can't get success there look in the phone book for other wood suppliers. I have always been able to find it with local suppliers, too. Call around. If somebody you call doesn't have it ask them for the name of another place around town that might. With a little digging, it will turn up.

Call your local cabinet shop, most cabinets are made out of mcp so they may carry some already!

Re: Black Melamine Sheets? Chain stores that sell it?

Yeah, I wouldn't even worry about HD or Lowes. They have no clue what to order and they act like they can't get it, even after they tell you they can, or they don't want to go throught the trouble.

Call your local mill shop or cabinet shop. I made all of my new racks and chondro cages from black melamine. It's a little more expensive, but looks very nice. If you have plans figured, I would also have them cut it. Most shops have a CAD program that will make precision cuts by lazer. Melamine is heavy, as I'm sure you are aware, and it's much easier to have them worry about making mistakes. The only think you have to do is attach the edging and assemble. If you need edging that is simple, go to www.rocklerpro.com. You have to order it by 250' roll, but it's relatively inexpensive and you just iron it on.
