Re: Can you teach an old dog new tricks?
I just lost a really old blue heeler that I got when I was born. She was a great dog. There is nothing better than old dogs!

I'm sorry to hear that.
Personally, I hate puppies. Yeah they are cute and all. But I am a dog person, not a puppy person.
My mom called yesterday and it seems my old lab back home is about to go. She is about 14 now, and eventhough she is old, she still has the drive to hunt. Dad told me that during the last bird season, he would still find her sitting by the door at 4 am waiting on him to take her out to the truck and go down some birds.
He even took her a few times, and held the younger dog back so she could retrieve a few. But only took her out to the blind for duck. She wouldn't have been able to walk far enough to hunt the fields.
She was the kind of dog that would go out into the field when we would be training, and would retrieve work and run until she just couldn't walk anymore. She would run out of energy but never ran out of heart.
I will try to remember to post up a picture of her when I get home tonight.
