Question I'd like to put my girl in a bin... what size?

I have my adult female ball python in a 40 gallon glass viv. It has worked well for me, but I am daydreaming about having her in a bin, as I am currently having temp/humidity issues right now, and a bin would help a lot.

What size (dimensions) bin would you suggest for my girl? She's about 3'10". She will also need to be fed in the bin. And will one heat pad (it's kind of big) be enough to heat the whole enclosure or will I need to invest in some other heating method?

Your dropping the tank already, thought you were just changing the substrate.LOL

A 31quart to 41 quart should work in my opinion.

I'd say 37-45 quarts is ideal.

LOL! If I do get a bin, it will be in a while though; she's just started eating again after a fast, and I want to make sure she's not going to fast again before I change her whole world around.

    Thanks!

My adult females are in 41 quart tubs - that are about 6" tall.

Actually, you'll find that she'll likely eat MUCH better for your in a tub than in a big 40 gallon tank.

My first ball python was kept in a tank, fasted for 8 months, I moved him to a tub and he ate the first week he was moved and each week after that.

Have you looked into a reptile cage? Since you have her in a viv, it appears that you like to be able to see her, and yet the viv is giving you hassles~ a reptile cage would be the best of both worlds. They hold in heat and humidity really well, are black on the sides and back and bottom so that the snake feels secure. Plexi door for ease of handling and feeding. 3x2x1 sized cage allows for flex watt or heat via RHP. Place two hides and- voila- both snake and keeper are happy!!!

I have 6 of these and they are terrific: http://www.reptilebasics.com/2x3-Cag...h-p-16286.html

Really? You just made my day! I do see how a bin could make a shy snake feel much more comfortable and safe; nobody staring at you through the glass, a little less space... I bet she'll love it, and hopefully she'll be better about her eating habits.
