    Got a "No-Digger"?

I find it pretty interesting that my WHS never burrows. When he roams around he does occasionally "submerge" a centimeter then comes up like Nessie after a few seconds, but he doesn't truly burrow and stay there like every other burrowing snake does. Anyone else have a Hogger like this?

P.S. This isn't an issue topic, just a comment about a weird habit.

I've got a few westerns and some of them are never buried and some of them I have to dig in the bedding to make sure they've not escaped.

I think it's not uncommon for them to be more comfortable on the surface.
I may not be very smart, but what if I am?

I agree. I have found it depends on the snake. My female WHS and my male MHS love to watch what's going on. All the others hide in the sand or in their hides but only one burrows (usually right under his water dish). Not uncommon at all.

mine only tries to dig when he's trying to escape... otherwise he's chillin wherever. in fact i used to have a branch and a vine in there and he'd often by hanging in one of those - like a semi-arboreal. not too surprising though really, most north american colubrids act similarly.

In blue: Ha, like a KSB! In my opinion Westerns are not like most American colubrids (in fact they're from among the colubrins, which are not the corn/garter type of colubrid).
