crab leg shells for rats to chew? good or bad idea

I was eating crab legs last week, and lamenting on how the shells go to waste. I wished that there was a productive use for them! I thought.. I could make windchimes out of them.. nah. I could piece them together with Superglue and make a model crab.. nah. Wait! I wonder if my ratties could chew on them and get some enjoyment out of it?
I did not give any to them.. but would this be a good idea? I thought also that they migh get some scrap meat from where I could not remove it..
    So.. yay, or neigh?

I actually put those in my mealworm farm.

I give my rats steak, ham and chicken bones..they seem to like sucking out the marrow (and they don't eat each other) I don't see any benefit in the crab shells other than busy work chewing toys.

I don't see any harm in giving them to your rats. Just make sure you remove them before any meat tidbits spoil cause spoiled seafood could be bad.
