    Increase in snake population

    Ok..

I just had a slight increase in my BP population.

I went from having 1.0 hatchling and 0.1 2006 to having 2.1 hatchlings and still the 2006 female. They all arrive in Jan 09

So i have decided I need to set up an ASF colony.

What would be the best way to do this? I want just enough to feed my snakes so would a 1:1 ratio work or would I need a 1:2 ratio?

    Re: Increase in snake population

You're probably going to feed your hatchlings every 5 days plus weekly meals for the 2006, so, that would be 22 rats a month. One ASF female could average 12 offspring a month, so you'll need to go with 1:2. ASF's won't outgrow your 2006, and fairly soon, your other bp's. So if you end up with a few extras you can feed them off right before breeding season. Just separate the weanlings by sex to avoid creating new breeding rats before the breeding trio retire. I also got advice by mccavana that 1:2 is better for the health of your colony than a 1:1.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Sounds great I think I am going to get a treo from North Texas Reptile Breeders they are close by and I have heard some one else say they have gotten some from there.
