    Re: Swiss webster mice

Aren't they just lab mice? You want them cause they have big litters right?

I've had good luck with albino mice from petsmart and petco, as long as you wait till they're 11-12weeks old (usually about a 4week wait after you get them) they have huge litters. I keep the females in pairs and they birth at the same time. My last pair had 23 pups between them. They usually average 20.

But I know nothing about swiss webster mice, sorry.

My house? ... 13 snakes, 3 geckos, a tarantula, a boyfriend, a roommate (yes the roommate and boyfriend make the "animals" list), 3 cats, a roach colony and don't ask me to count the rodents.

All my female mice came from petco, my first group of 3 had 37 babies. Decent sized litters IMO

    Re: Swiss webster mice

I'm pretty sure Petco and Petsmart get their mice from The Gourmet Rodent, which stocks a highly productive strain of mice.

As for Swiss Websters, I've heard of them for years but have never seen any. You could do a search of Harlan Labs and check with them. They supply MANY strains of mice and rats.

    Good luck.

    Re: Swiss webster mice

Its pretty hard to get swiss websters, and shipping will kill you if you can get some that are not local. The bright side is, they have 20+ sized litters everytime so its worth it if you can. Id get asfs, they have huge litters once started. One just gave me 19.

Harlan Teklad does carry the swiss-webster strain of mice, if they will sell to you.

Contact Information for Harlan Sprague Dawley.

Address: 8520 Allison Pointe Blvd., Ste. 400
    Indianapolis, IN 46250
    Phone: 317-806-6060
    Website:http://www.harlan.com/

You may have to do some indepth searching on their site to find a good strain of mice for maximum production. They have hundreds of strains, so the best bet would be to call them and talk to someone. They will help you with what you need. They have 2 strains of Swiss Webster, and possibly a third. Tell them what you are looking for and they will be happy to help. Shipping may run you a babies arm and leg, but in the long run it will save you tons. Good luck and let us know how you come out.

They sold 5.20 mice to a good friend of mine about 10 years ago. He is still breeding from inbred animals from the same 25 mice and has probably produced over 1 million mice since the beginning. He paid a premium for each mouse, $2.50 each I think, but they pay for themselves with production.
